Tara started her career at KXEW Spanish radio, then “Radio Fiesta” in 1987 and joined Arizona Lotus Corp. in 1991.  

Tara started with Arizona Lotus Corp as an Account Executive for KLPX / KTKT and later KFMA as well.  Throughout her 25+ years with Arizona Lotus Corp. she has co-managed KLPX and was Sales Manager of KCMT La Caliente & KTKT La Buena for 13 years and is currently Sr. Account Executive for KCMT La Caliente & KTKT La Buena.  

Tara served on the board of directors for the Tucson Hispanic Chamber of Commerce for 8 years including 2 years as Board Chair.  Tara has also been a member of Assistance League of Tucson for the past 16 years and currently serves on their Board.  Tara was named Sales Manager of the Year by industry magazine, Radio Ink in 2012.  She has lived in Tucson since 1977 and is committed to the progress of Tucson’s businesses and the community.

Suzi Nomiyama’s international journey includes living in Saipan in the Northern Marianas Islands, as well as Honolulu, Hawaii, and Southern California. Her fondness for beach communities includes having graduated from the University of Santa Barbara. For the last several years she has lived in Oro Valley, where she raised her two daughters.

She established her media career in Saipan at an advertising agency, as well as in cable TV. After relocating to Tucson, she worked at the Explorer Newspaper before taking her present job with Tucson Lifestyle. She is passionate about Tucson Lifestyle and Tucson Lifestyle Home and Garden, and thrives on customer interaction and outreach in the community.

Suzi loves yoga, dogs, horses, country music, art, gardening, fine wine, and entertaining close friends. Her favorite escape is to Kailua Beach; favorite color is purple; and favorite wine is a Russian River Pinot Noir. She is a board member of the Southern Arizona Arts and Cultural Alliance (SAACA), and a volunteer at Equine Voices Rescue & Sanctuary.

She is grateful for her abundant life, two amazing daughters, loving friends and family, and above all the grace and kindness of this community.

Born in Bisbee, Patty Ruiz grew up in Tucson.  Since graduating from Sunnyside High School on the South side, Patty’s name has been synonymous with Sales as well as Hispanic marketing. Patty started her broadcast career at (KXEW?) radio in 1974, then moved to KMSB TV 11 in Sales.  There she also hosted a show featuring movies in Spanish, “ Cine en Tucson con Patricia.” Her involvement in showcasing the Hispanic community in media led her to Telemundo, where she was General Sales Manager, overseeing both Tucson and Phoenix.  She was also a minority partner.

In each phase of her Media Sales career, Patty has had a profound influence in the promotion of the Tucson community through major events. In one instance, she strategically combined media sales opportunities with the Tucson International Mariachi Conference to benefit La Frontera and the community at large. These efforts made the Mariachi Conference one of the events most identified with Tucson nationally and internationally.

Patty has always been known for her tireless efforts in promoting general market and Hispanic market events and organizations: she was an original Board member and founder, then Vice-President of the Tucson Hispanic Chamber of Commerce; she is a recipient of the LULAC FBI Community Service Award for Outstanding Dedication to the Hispanic Community.

Patty’s success in Sales, reflected in honors such as AAFT’s Warren F. Olsen Award for Sales and Community Service and the Phoenix Valle del Sol Profiles of Success Leadership Award, can be traced to her active career-long involvement in her community. 

Patty was an original member of American Women in Radio and Television, serving on the Board and as President (?). Most of all, Patty is proud of serving as AAFT past President and being inducted into the AAFT Hall of Fame. Her other Board memberships include Concerned Media Professionals, El Rio Neighborhood Center, Project Yes, and the THCC Foundation.

In her long Sales career, Patty has also managed the Hispanic division for Clear Channel Radio, and is currently the General Sales Manager for Azteca Tucson, overseeing National and local Sales.

Patty Ruiz will leave her legacy in Sales, as two of her three children follow in her Media Sales  footsteps: son Michael Ruiz is National Sales Manager for Cox Media in Phoenix, and daughter Sonia Ruiz is Senior Account Executive for I Heart Media.

Cara Frank

Cara joined Simpleview in 2008 as a Sales Associate and the moved into the role of Director of Marketing & Communications in 2009. She was recently promoted to Vice President of Marketing. In her role, Cara is responsible for the communication and marketing efforts of Simpleview products and services. Her past experience includes working as the Director of Convention Services for the Greater Madison Convention and Visitors (GMCVB). She received a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Wisconsin, Madison and works from the Wisconsin Simpleview office.

Mike McPherson

Mike McPherson is the Art Director for the DesertLeaf magazine. He has held
that position for almost 24 years. During his time there, the Leaf has grown
from a Catalina Foothills community newspaper to a respected, mature magazine.
Because of an eclectic content and oversized format, Mike has been able
to “push” designs that may not be traditional solutions for some magazines.
With assistance from the DesertLeaf staff he continues to meet the creative
challenges of a monthly publication.

Prior to the DesertLeaf he worked for several advertising agencies and design
fi rms in Tucson, Phoenix and Flagstaff. He also owned a small graphic design
studio locally. During his 32+ years as a graphic designer, Mike has won numerous
design awards and been recognized for his talents.

Since joining Bolchalk FReY Marketing in 1982, Robyn has used her versatile creative talents to create images and messages that guide clients to their desired goals in marketing their products and services. Robyn and her creative design team have won hundreds of design awards in Tucson, Arizona and nationally.

A native of North Carolina, Robyn has a BFA in Graphic Design from the University of Georgia. She was an artist for the University of Georgia College of Veterinary Medicine and served as Art Director at Bernard Hodes Advertising. She received the Phyllis Ehlinger Women of Excellence Award in 2010 from the American Advertising Federation Tucson.

Chris Westin is the consummate professional. His work as a magazine designer has
garnered many ADDY awards — from covers to layouts — for Tucson Lifestyle
magazine.

He has been associated with Tucson Lifestyle for more than 15 years, starting out as
the magazine’s Advertising Art Director. A few years later, he took over editorial
duties, as well as participating in marketing campaigns.

Associate Art Director Matthew Kauffman describes Chris as “a naturally creative
person who consistently provides a high caliber of work. His positive attitude
evokes confidence and motivates others. He constantly strives to keep editorial
features from appearing stagnant, always keeping his eye on the prize — ensuring
that Tucson Lifestyle, as well as its sister publication Tucson Lifestyle Home &
Garden, looks fresh, trendy and reader friendly.”

“Chris’ vital role in the look and production of the magazine can’t be overstated,”
according to the magazine’s Publisher Doug Burke. Editor-in-Chief Sue Giles tips her
hat to Chris for his problem-solving abilities and his insistence on a high standard of
excellence. And he has overseen numerous re-designs of the magazine and its
website.”

Tucson Advertising Hall of Fame Announces 3 new inductees & 2016 Next Generation Award Winner

The Tucson Advertising Federation Education Foundation (TAFEF), in conjunction with American Advertising Federation Tucson (AAFT) has announced that Mary Rowley, Jackson Boelts and Rick Rose will be inducted into the Tucson Advertising Hall of Fame.  Additionally, James Patrick has been selected to receive the Next Generation Award.

The Hall of Fame and Next Generation Awards will be presented on Wednesday, September 14, at Vivace Restaurant. Net proceeds from the event will benefit the TAFEF Scholarship Fund, which awards annual scholarships to college students in advertising related fields.

The Hall of Fame seeks to recognize the very best among Southern Arizona marketing and advertising professionals who have led, mentored and inspired others to succeed in this industry, while preserving the legacy of our past and promise of our future through the next generation. 

The Next Generation Award, founded in 2014, recognizes those outstanding advertising individuals, age 40 and younger, who are making a significant impact on the industry through their leadership, career achievements, community contributions and inspiration to others to excel.

The American Advertising Federation Tucson (AAFT) serves as a collaborative hub for a full spectrum of industry experts and brings together today’s leaders and tomorrow’s stars from the fields of advertising, marketing, communications, interactive and media.

The Hall of Fame Awards/Next Generation event will take place on September 14th at Vivace Restaurant, 6440 N. Campbell Avenue, from 5:30 to 7:30, and is open to the public.  For additional information on this year’s inductees and tickets, visit aaftucson.org.
