Steven Meckler

Steven Meckler Photographer

Steven Meckler came to Tucson by way of Brooklyn, New York. He developed his love of photography in high school and graduated from the State University of New York at Stony Brook with a major in biology and a minor in photography. The camera won over his pre-med aspirations and he has been single-minded in his devotion to his craft ever since.

After a couple of years as a photo intern and a medical research photographer in Manhattan, Steven came West and, within a few years, set up his first studio on Congress Street where the Ronstadt Transit Center now stands. He focused on building a solid commercial photography business with clients such as JCPenney, Intel, Del Webb Corp., Pella Windows, New York Magazine, and Travel and Leisure among many others. But the core of his success comes from the many local businesses, ad agencies and magazines he's had the pleasure of working with over the last twenty-plus years.

Steven's love of his adopted home is apparent in his tireless dedication to our community. In addition to his service to the Tucson Advertising Federation Board, he serves on the board of the Tucson Jewish Community Foundation and its marketing committee and gives countless hours of pro bono photography to charities and arts groups in Tucson. His wife, Trudy, will tell you that he never says no to a chance to give of himself to a worthwhile cause. He is an adjunct professor of digital photography at Pima Community College where he is passing on his knowledge and interest in all things photographic. In 2006, Steven was honored as the Tucson Ad Federation’s Advertising Professional of the Year.

In his spare time, Steven pursues his life-long passion for fine art photography. His book, Steven Meckler Photographs Tucson Artists, continues to be sold at the Tucson Museum of Art and he is currently working on a new project photographing Tucson musicians. His love of family is apparent to all who know him and he is a wonderful husband to Trudy and a devoted father to their daughter, Sofia.
