Seminar students will gain knowledge and vision of what strong composition and skilled use of lighting contributes to making a great photo through slideshows, critiques, demonstrations and student discussions. 

This is an intermediate through advanced course for those who know how to use their camera and want to get the most out of it. The class will analyze many of Steven’s images, critique participant’s work and see demonstrations. Presentations will involve important concepts of composition, light and the many decisions that go into making an outstanding photo. Discussions will range from the best lens choices, to choosing the optimal time of day to shoot, and much more. Gain a behind the scenes glimpse of a professional photographer’s life, studio and equipment. Attendees are invited to put down the camera, channel their imagination and learn from a weekend exploring the nuances of creative technique. 

This course will be packed with information and important tips about all facets of photography. The heart of the seminar will include critical thinking about why photos are made and how to accomplish a perfect image. By looking at some of Steven’s commercial and editorial images, students will be able to ask the important “why” questions discuss basic principles involved in capturing an engaging image.

Steven Meckler came to Tucson by way of Brooklyn, New York. He developed his love of photography in high school and graduated from the State University of New York at Stony Brook. After a stint as a medical photographer at Sloan-Kettering Memorial Hospital in Manhattan, Steven moved west and set up his studio in downtown Tucson. He first focused on building a solid commercial photography business with clients such as JC Penney, Intel, IBM, Pella Windows, New York Magazine and Phoenix Home & Garden, among many others. But the core of his success comes from the many local businesses, ad agencies and magazines he has had the pleasure of working with over the last thirty-plus years.

Steven was an adjunct professor of digital photography at Pima Community College for 14 years and has taught workshops and continuing education classes for high school photo teachers through the Arizona Department of Education. He also coordinates and teaches an annual series of photography workshops for Tucson high school photo students.

American Advertising Federation Challenges Industry to Fulfill Diversity & Inclusion Promises / 07/07/2017 2:53 pm

WASHINGTON DC, July 7, 2017—In an effort to help companies act on commitments to diversity and inclusion, the American Advertising Federation’s (AAF) Mosaic Center is launching “#DiversityInAction,” 20 days of actionable practices designed to increase recruitment, recognition and leadership opportunities for multicultural professionals and to encourage the industry to portray multicultural communities in a realistic way. The campaign will be shared on the AAF’s social media channels beginning Monday, July 10 and concluding Friday, August 4.

The #DiversityInAction campaign is based on the AAF’s Mosaic Principles, a guide for companies and agencies to include common diversity practices that are essential to addressing not only the demands of consumers, but to better reflect society as a whole. Each week, a different Mosaic Principle will be highlighted and each day a new action item will be offered, supported by resources from the AAF, industry professionals and successful diversity initiatives.
