JTED Student Design Contest Winners Announced / 10/05/2017 8:08 pm

AZ JTED Student Design Competition

Thank you to the AAF Tucson members who participated as judges for the
2017 Arizona Design Education Network' s student design competition.

The first annual "Otoño in The Old Pueblo" competition was a great success. With support from the Superintendent's office and industry partners, it came together splendidly! The music by Pueblo and catering by FWHS Culinary, all hosted in such a professional setting really made for a special experience for all. 

Nine area high schools participated and students submitted a total of 166 designs.
The exhibit will remain on display until February at 200 N. Stone Avenue. If you haven't yet had a chance yet, be sure to stop by and check it out.

Tucson company one of America’s fastest growing for 11 years running

TUCSON, Ariz. (September 21, 2017) - 2017 marks the 11th consecutive year that Tucson-based travel tech company Simpleview has earned a place on Inc. Magazine’s annual Inc. 5000 list, a noteworthy ranking of America's fastest-growing private companies. Greetings from the Arizona Design Education Network. We're off to a good start at various schools around the Tucson area, and have plans in place for our first area-wide contest of the school year. For it, we'd like to invite you to contribute by being a judge. Below is a brief overview of the project. 

Otoño in The Old Pueblo

- Seasonally-relevant PSA page layout for Zocalo magazine

If you accept, we'll send you an email form next week. On it, you'll be able to click to vote for favorites, and add comments/feedback.The whole process can be done from your desk or cellphone, and should only take a couple of minutes of your time. 

We'll also invite you to attend the opening ceremony of the exhibit on Wednesday October 5th at the Superintendent's office in Downtown Tucson. At it, student work will be displayed, catered food from Flowing Wells HS culinary arts and live music by Catalina Foothills HS orchestra, plus student-recognitions will be made based on the feedback that was provided by all you local professionals.

Seminar students will gain knowledge and vision of what strong composition and skilled use of lighting contributes to making a great photo through slideshows, critiques, demonstrations and student discussions. 

This is an intermediate through advanced course for those who know how to use their camera and want to get the most out of it. The class will analyze many of Steven’s images, critique participant’s work and see demonstrations. Presentations will involve important concepts of composition, light and the many decisions that go into making an outstanding photo. Discussions will range from the best lens choices, to choosing the optimal time of day to shoot, and much more. Gain a behind the scenes glimpse of a professional photographer’s life, studio and equipment. Attendees are invited to put down the camera, channel their imagination and learn from a weekend exploring the nuances of creative technique. 

This course will be packed with information and important tips about all facets of photography. The heart of the seminar will include critical thinking about why photos are made and how to accomplish a perfect image. By looking at some of Steven’s commercial and editorial images, students will be able to ask the important “why” questions discuss basic principles involved in capturing an engaging image.

Steven Meckler came to Tucson by way of Brooklyn, New York. He developed his love of photography in high school and graduated from the State University of New York at Stony Brook. After a stint as a medical photographer at Sloan-Kettering Memorial Hospital in Manhattan, Steven moved west and set up his studio in downtown Tucson. He first focused on building a solid commercial photography business with clients such as JC Penney, Intel, IBM, Pella Windows, New York Magazine and Phoenix Home & Garden, among many others. But the core of his success comes from the many local businesses, ad agencies and magazines he has had the pleasure of working with over the last thirty-plus years.

Steven was an adjunct professor of digital photography at Pima Community College for 14 years and has taught workshops and continuing education classes for high school photo teachers through the Arizona Department of Education. He also coordinates and teaches an annual series of photography workshops for Tucson high school photo students.

TUCSON ADVERTISING HALL OF ACHIEVEMENT HONOREES ANNOUNCED / 07/06/2017 10:30 pm

HOA LogoTucson Advertising Federation Educational Foundation (TAFEF) and American Advertising Federation Tucson (AAF Tucson) have announced that Steve Lynn, Chris Mooney and Balfour Walker will be inducted into the Tucson Advertising Hall of Fame on Thursday, September 7, 2017. Nickolas Duarte has been selected to receive the 2017 Next Generation Award. Doug Myers and Lisa Hilton will be recognized with the AAF Silver Medal Award. All presentations will be made at the same event.

The Advertising Hall of Fame seeks to recognize the very best among Southern Arizona marketing and advertising professionals who have led, mentored and inspired others to succeed in this industry, while preserving the legacy of our past and promise of our future through the next generation. 

The Next Generation Award, founded in 2014, recognizes those outstanding advertising individuals, age 40 and younger, who are making a significant impact on the industry through their leadership, career achievements, community contributions and inspiration to others to excel.

The Silver Medal Award program was established by the American Advertising Federation (AAF) in 1959 to recognize men and women who have made outstanding contributions to advertising and who have been active in furthering the industry’s standards, creative excellence and responsibility in areas of social concern. Annually, local advertising federations bestow this honor upon outstanding leaders in their communities. 

The Hall of Fame Awards event will take place on September 7 at Hacienda del Sol in the Casa Luna Ballroom, 5505 N.
