AdTEAM DEBUT AT UNIVERSITY OF ARIZONA / 05/17/2017 12:13 pm

UA AdTeamWhen Ed Ackerley was President of the Tucson Ad Club in 1985, he established the UA Ad Club. Over the years the club has been known as: UA Ad Club, UofA Ad Club, UA Ad Fed, AdFed, Studio 320, NSAC Team and AAF Arizona.

Beginning May 15, 2017 the club and class will be merged into The University of Arizona AdTEAM
representing both the American Advertising Federation University Chapter and the National Student Advertising Competition Team.

According to Dr. Ed Ackerley, “we are in the advertising business and sometimes branding ourselves is the most difficult thing. We have come a long way in the last three decades, and as we move forward the Eller College of Management Department of Marketing will grant upper division credit for the competition class, we are embarking on a new partnership with Adobe, and the focus will be on careers, job placement and alumni interaction. The effort is to provide students interested in advertising 100% engagement in the industry and the best chance to compete for careers." Dr. Ackerley teaches in the Eller School of Management Department of Marketing as well as the Film & Television School and the Department of Communication, and he also begins his 33rd year as the organization’s faculty advisor.

In 2009, Ackerley and Dr. Robert Lusch launched AdCATS to give students a ‘real-world’ experience designing on campus campaigns for university clubs, departments and events. The AdCATS remain a strong and vibrant club challenging dozens of students each semester with advertising opportunities to apply what they have learned to the marketplace. Dr. Hope Schau is the AdCATS Faculty Advisor.

According to Dr. Mrinal Ghosh, Chair of the Department of Marketing at the Eller College of
Management, the introduction of AdTEAM is a compliment to the University of Arizona AdCATS
experience, allowing the AAF Club members and the National Student Advertising Competition Team to continue a record of excellence in pursuit of advertising as a career.

12th Annual Simpleview Summit kicks off in lead-up to Global Meetings Industry Day

Roughly 900 destination marketing professionals from around the world are gathering in Tucson, AZ, this week for the company's largest-ever signature annual event.

TUCSON, Ariz. (April 4, 2017) - As the travel and tourism industry gears up to celebrate Global Meetings Industry Day on April 6, Tucson-based Simpleview, the world leader in digital destination marketing, kicks off its own signature meeting: the 12th annual Simpleview Summit, with 650+ customers traveling to Tucson for this year's largest-ever event.

Meetings are big business in travel. Meeting Professionals International, the leading industry association for the segment, reports that exhibitions, conferences and like events contribute more to the US GDP than the film or recording industries or spectator sports: some $393 billion through direct spending as well as indirect and induced impacts. That sum translates into nearly $15 billion federal tax revenue, $13.2 billion state and local tax revenue, 1.8 million jobs and $66.8 billion in labor income.

Simpleview Summit has contributed its share to those numbers since its launch in 2006 -- tens of thousands of room nights and millions in combined economic impact over 12 years -- but more important are the less measurable outcomes, says the company's president and CEO Ryan George.

"Once a year we bring our customers together from around the world for training, speakers, networking -- all to build knowledge that they can then take back to their cities and countries to make this industry even stronger," George said. "Our business is completely built on the digital space, but I'm the first to tell you that for many things in business, there's no substitute for face-to-face connections."

Roughly 900 people representing eight countries will attend this year's Simpleview Summit: most of the company's 200 employees plus 57 sponsors and strategic partners from 19 organizations in addition to more than 650 guests from across Simpleview's 530+ customers. The event runs April 3 - 6 at the JW Marriott Tucson Starr Pass Resort & Spa. Speakers include destination marketing professionals from around the world as well as conservationist Jeff Corwin, marketing expert Scott Stratten and David Rendall, author of The Freak Factor.
